Faith, Family, and Fun: How the Raby Family Brings Bible Stories to Life with Kids Corner

Meet the Raby family. Kamika and Terrence, a military family originally from North Carolina but currently living in Texas, have discovered a homeschooling approach to learning designed around their three boys’ unique needs, interests, and strengths. One resource that has fit seamlessly into their routine is Kids Corner from ReFrame Ministries.
Nehemiah, (10); Malachi, (7); and Elijah, (3) are all growing in their understanding of a Biblical worldview. Their mom, Kamika, appreciates how easily her children connect with Kids Corner’s stories and messages. "We love any time we encounter a life circumstance that relates to an episode of Liz and Friends or something mentioned in the weekly devotional – I love when the Holy Spirit works in that way."
The boys look forward to listening to Kids Corner’s weekly devotions, whether at home or on the road. They also enjoy the classic Liz and Friends program. Kamika says, "We don't have one favorite character – we enjoy the entire cast of Liz and Friends. We learn something new every episode from all the characters." Nehemiah adds, “I like it and it's fun to hear. And all the problems they have and all the problems they need to solve.”
Kamika sees Kids Corner as a great source of accessible, biblically grounded content. The boys also love that young teen voices narrate the weekly devotions. Kamika uses the audio recordings to help strengthen her children's reading comprehension and fluency. "Audio devotionals help build listening skills and encourage healthy imagination by letting kids visualize each scene,” she says. “I grew up with Adventures in Odyssey. So it's special to share a modern Biblical storytelling resource like Liz and Friends with my boys and create those same lasting memories for them and their generation."
In addition to the devotions, the Raby family regularly prints off downloadable resources and activities from Kids Corner. This past Easter, they created a special video of Nehemiah narrating the Resurrection story using the script and cut-out puppets from Kids Corner's Popsicle Puppets Easter Story resource. So far, the video has been viewed 47 times, with one viewer commenting, “Great job! I’m going to show this to my kids right now.” Nehemiah says, “I liked making the video because anything that talks about God, I like doing it, and I like doing the puppet show because I like acting out those characters and telling the Easter story. The video is important because it tells everyone about the Jesus story and why he rose again. I like using the Kids Corner devotions and activities because they are fun, and I like the education about God.”
As the founder and director of a nonprofit homeschool program, Imagodei Academy, Kamika also shares Kids Corner’s weekly devotionals with her upper elementary students via the academy’s online learning platform. “I value and am so grateful for the Biblical content that Kids Corner provides,” she says. “It’s been a staple in the spiritual growth and development of my sons, and each week we look forward to engaging with the devotionals provided. They are always timely and relatable. Thank you, Kids Corner, for all the hard work in providing the Biblical resources that parents like me are looking for and need.”
