How do I know ReFrame Ministries will steward my gift well?
External Organizational Accountability
ReFrame values transparency of stewardship with our donors. We keep our Annual Report and audited financial statements readily accessible on our website. Donor representatives are always available to answer any questions you may have about the stewardship of funds.
Additionally, we strive to maintain accurate ratings with many nonprofit rating agencies and websites, including industry-leading Guidestar (Candid). We are among the 1% of non-profit organizations that have achieved a Candid's Guidestar Platinum Rating. ReFrame Ministries is also an ECFA-accredited organization.
Governance
ReFrame is governed by separate U.S. and Canadian corporate boards that provide formal ongoing governance. The boards direct and oversee key objectives and strategic plans. They also ensure legal compliance and provide financial oversight. Examples include the approval of ReFrame’s annual budget and pay ranges, including the director’s compensation.
ReFrame Ministries is the media ministry of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA). As an agency of the CRCNA, ReFrame is accountable to the CRCNA’s synod, a governing body made up of representatives appointed by individual church councils from each regional classis of the denomination (additional governance details can be found here).
The Council of Delegates (COD), a body composed of representatives from each classis (regional collections of churches), provides ecclesiastical (church) oversight in the interim period between annual synod meetings. The COD's ReFrame-specific committee provides oversight for the agency, interacting directly with its leaders and having a greater understanding of the details of ReFrame.
These multiple layers of governance ensure that ReFrame Ministries stewards ministry funds responsibly and in support of our mission.
Internal Organizational Accountability
ReFrame Ministries’ leadership team meets weekly for routine updates, bi-monthly for strategic sessions, and three times a year for governance meetings. The team is directly responsible for ensuring that the organization stewards funds in accordance with our mission, and in support of our long-term strategy, planning, and goals.
As a practice of that stewardship, each language ministry and department of the organization goes through a thorough assessment process approximately every three years. This process is led by an assessment team that typically includes ReFrame’s Director and Director of Administration, the local ministry leader, local staff, a local partner board member, a Christian media and mission expert from outside our organization, and a member of the Christian Reformed Church familiar with and passionate about financially supporting the particular ministry. Input on the effectiveness of the ministry from the point of view of its audiences is also sought.
When hiring, ReFrame seeks employees who embody traits consistent with its core values of humility, diligence, and a redemptive nature. ReFrame positions typically have multi-faceted responsibilities. We have found that staff members who are unconcerned with ego and willing to “roll up their sleeves” to do unglamorous work find ReFrame to be a good fit. Each staff member on the team goes through an annual performance review, including competencies and SMART goals. These reviews often include feedback from not only the employee’s supervisor, but from other staff members and contractors as well.
